We adopted Duke a few weeks ago. He is a beautiful husky. We already have a six year old Husky/Shepherd mix who is apricot. The first few days were a little rough as Duke and Scout were having some domination issues. However two weeks later they are both happy, love each other's company and miss each other if they are apart. If we take one someplace the other is continually looking around the house for the other.
Duke's favorite thing to do is go in the backyard for almost an hour at a time sometimes and try and catch things. The second day that we had him he caught a mother rabbit and ate most of it. I called the vet and they told me not to worry that big dogs often catch things but I had never seen a dog devour most of one. Our other dog just would catch it and do nothing else to it. He sleeps in our bedroom at the foot of the bed and wakes when the alarm goes off. He is extremely social and loves everyone and everything. You couldn't ask for a dog with a better temperament. I'm so glad that we were able to adopt him and give him a home with our dog, Scout. Cindy

Want a great pet? Check out the SPCA

This month I had an experience both enlightening and sad. I adopted a beautiful cat from the Allen County SPCA named Link to be a companion to my cat Chloe. It didn't work out as I had hoped. Chloe was hostile to the new cat and became so with me. It became obvious that my attempt to introduce a new cat to the home had failed. I had to return Link to the SPCA. I felt like a failure that I had abandoned a sweet and wonderful cat. The good thing - and what I really learned from this experience - is that I didn't return Link to certain or even possible death. I returned him to a loving, caring, healthy environment. I returned him to a place full of dedicated staff and volunteers whose sole goal is to find loving homes for all kinds of animals. They don't just warehouse them, they care for them. There are special-needs cats and dogs, and they're given the attention and care they need until they're adopted. My hope is that if you're looking for a great pet to add to your family, you'll start at the SPCA. And if you're looking for somewhere to donate your time or your money, consider one or both at the SPCA. The time will enrich the animals and you. And the money will guarantee more animals will be saved from abandonment, cruelty or death. And finally, if you're looking for about the best cat ever, consider visiting the SPCA and meeting Link. He's sweet, he's adorable, he's neutered, he's litter-box trained, and when you pick him up, he purrs like he's got a little motor inside.

Just wanted to drop in a update on JADA. She has touched our lives in such a wonderful way. As some of the spca staff knows we found out a few days after having Jada she had a blood clot in her head. Our vet told us that it wouldn't be the wrong thing to do to take her back. There was no such thing happening. We talked about the side effects of the medication she would have to be on and how it would be a undetermable time on how long she would have to take the meds. There could be some good days and bad days. All I could think is how much this poor dog had been thru in her 6 Years of life so far. She had someone who loved her at one time but it didn't work out, she was left with the spca 2 days before her puppies arrived ( which I was thrilled to find out all have homes) and than me. Here I had only had her for a few short days. I not walking away from this one I told the vet. We picked each other and thru the good and bad we are going to fight what ever comes our way. That's just what were doing. I'm thrilled to report after our last vet visit on Saturday the 4th she is doing great. The meds are working wonderful. She is so playful and outgoing. She loves to play with her toys.... and well my 6 year olds slippers to. She goes to work with me thru the week and loves to make new friends. She has a bed next to my side of our bed that well hasn't been used much. She sleeps with my 6 year old or with myself and husband at the end of the bed. She loves to go on walks and play with the kids. I cant thank you guys enough for allowing such a wonderful dog to go home with us. I have to say after losing our cat a few years ago I hadn't planed to get any other animals. Now looking back on this past month I could think of any other way to spend my days. Again thanks for the chance to have a great Dog.

Thank you
Danielle

Just a quick hello from Harley and his family. Harley was 4 when we adopted him. He is a Shep/Staff mix who was a bit shy and non-trusting when we first adopted him. With love and a little hard work he has turned into a 78lb lap dog. He loves our 4 children and enjoys rolling over on his back so they can rub his belly non stop. The neighborhood LOVES him. People see us coming down the street at night and come out on their porches to say "hi Harley boy, how ya doing tonight". The veterinarians that I work with tease me on how well HE has ME trained. His favorite things to do in order: Car rides, Chase squirrels (if only I would let him!) Walking, play/chew on Mr. Squeak (his toy from walmart, looks like a dumb-bell, he only chews on the red end..??) and now that it's hot, he lays on my bed in front of the air conditioner during the day when we are at work. He is very good at knowing when Dad is home he can not be on the bed, he jumps off as soon as he hears dads car come home from work, and pretends he has been on the floor all day . I knew he was smart the first day I met him. He was a little bit of work the first 4-6 months we had him, but by month 2 he worked his magic on us. A little hard work and love can make the best companion a person could ever have wanted. My only regret, not having him younger. If you have a pet that is a bit of trouble, don't give up, love, care and training do pay off. The amount of love you get in return is priceless. Harley is now 5.5 years old and enjoying life but seems to have some health problems developing. Please keep him in your well wishes while we do all we can for him. He is our best friend and the proud protector of our home and family.

Sincerely,
Sullivan-Harley family

Hello Friends,

I adopted Mia, two weeks ago on Sat. the 16th. I cannot believe the change in her in just a few days not to mention 2 weeks. As you know she was a little timid when I picked her up, by Monday eve, we sat on the couch together and watched a movie with her lying her head on my lap. Tuesday morning the 19th, she was trying to play tag with my cat. And since Tuesday night, she has picked her own spot on the bed, right by my head. Although the morning face washings are getting to me at 7 am.
Mia has a very happy personality. I am surprised how playful and outgoing she is. Mia loves our morning walks and goes out of her way to try and meet the people we pass on our walks. She definitely has a permanent spot in our family. I want to Thank you for letting her come into our hearts.

Dave
